Privacy Policy

Applies to the StackDays app and website.

What we collect

Your email address (for sign-in), the display name and avatar color you choose, and the habits and entries you log in the app: names, emojis, streaks, and the dates/quantities you record. If you connect Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS) to a habit, we read the specific metric you authorized (steps, running/swimming/cycling distance) for the current day only, to auto-fill that habit's progress.

How it's used

Your data powers the features you're using it for: your streaks and stats, your friends' view of your streak when you've added each other, and group/challenge progress you're a member of. We don't use your habit data for advertising, and we don't sell it to third parties.

Where it's stored

StackDays is built on Firebase (Google Cloud). Your account and habit data are stored in Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore under Google's standard security and encryption practices.

Who can see your data

Only you can see your full habit list and entry history. Friends you've connected with (via your invite code) can see your display name, avatar, and current streak count, not your individual habits or entries. Challenge members can see progress logged specifically within that shared challenge.

Challenge chat

Messages you send in a challenge's team chat are stored with your display name and are visible to every member of that challenge. Don't post anything there you wouldn't want those members to see.

If you report a message, we store a copy of it along with its author and your report so we can review it. That copy is kept even if the author later deletes the message or their account, because otherwise the most serious reports would arrive empty. Reports are used only for moderation and are never used for any other purpose. Blocking someone is stored on your own profile and is not revealed to the person you blocked.

Your chat messages are deleted along with the rest of your data when you delete your account, except where a copy is retained as part of an open moderation report.

Data retention

We keep your account data only for as long as your account exists. Your profile, habits, entries, friend connections, and challenge participation are retained while you are using StackDays so the app can show your streaks and history, and are not retained after you delete your account.

When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us), your profile, every habit and entry you have logged, your friend connections, and your challenge membership are permanently deleted from our live databases, and your sign-in credentials are removed from Firebase Authentication. In-app deletion takes effect immediately; email requests are processed within 30 days. Deleted data is not recoverable.

Health data read from Health Connect or Apple Health is used only to fill in the habit you linked it to. We store the resulting habit entry (for example, "5 km on 12 March"), and that entry is deleted with your account like any other. We do not keep a separate copy of your health records, and we never write anything back to Health Connect or Apple Health.

Diagnostic data (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics) is retained under Firebase's own retention schedule and deleted automatically when it expires. We do not sell any of this data or retain it for advertising.

Your controls

You can edit your display name and avatar color at any time from Edit Profile, control notification and wearable-sync permissions from your device settings, and permanently delete your account and all associated data - see Delete Your Account for how, in-app or without it.
